Feeling bad about your wastefulness and overconsumption? Does the pile of plastic coffee cups in your trash make you think about garbage island? Do you want to do your part to save the Earth? Do you not actually want to do that much work (ideally, no work at all)? Boy, do I have the solution for you — thrifting!
Before I discovered thrifting, the issue of overconsumption weighed heavily on me. I thought there was no way I could maintain my moral superiority and buy a new Y2K, whimsigoth, grandpa core sweater every week! For a minute there, I considered trying to use less plastic or even not buying things off TikTok shop (very brave, I know). Thanks to thrifting, it hasn’t come to that.
Now that I thrift, my conscience is lighter and my ego is higher. Now, when haters tell me that having ChatGPT write my Instagram captions, or tell me how I make mac and cheese is a “waste of water”, I just laugh. What would they think if they only knew that I got this top at Goodwill and these shoes from Depop? I doubt they would be so quick to judge!
That’s not the only benefit of thrifting; it’s lucrative too. Not only are the clothes cheap, but if you don’t like what you buy, you can sell it on Depop for double what you paid. If you pretend it’s from Brandy Melville, maybe even triple! Who knew being an environmentalist paid so well!
So, if you want to help fight climate change, but aren’t big on the whole “eating less meat” thing and don’t want to use paper straws (icky!), don’t fear. With just one trip to Goodwill, you too can be better than everyone else!
