What follows is a faithful account of the production of Issue 3 (taking place the evening of Feb. 12/early morning of Feb. 13.) as witnessed by me, The Pioneer’s Managing Editor.
5:27 p.m.: PA Jess was eating a conversation heart and it reminded me to start the Live Blog!
5:35 p.m.: We are on track for a late night…but there will be an extra-special 12-page issue tomorrow morning.
5:48 p.m.: Jess is hangry.
6:43 p.m.: Backpage check, Feature check. We are slowly getting close to getting there!
7:00 p.m.: ASWC brought us pizza! It’s cold and stale…and only two pieces…but still.
7:03 p.m.: Sports Editor Quin teaches EIC Shelly about what a redshirt athlete is.
7:36 p.m.: Shelly offers food/drink from Reid to anybody in the newsroom. Only one taker?
7:55 p.m.: Shelly and I (adorably) both get fish tacos for dinner.
8:32 p.m.: Everybody copy edit (doo doo doo doo do d-doo).
8:40 p.m.: Sean assesses everyone’s ability to have a dog. To Shelly – if you can run a paper, you can take care of a dog. To Dylan – you’re not ready to get a dog.
10:04 p.m.: Shelly and I look at cookie recipes to pass the time. UPDATE (10:06 p.m.): We realize that the recipe that looks the best also requires the most obscure ingredients. Sigh.
10:42 p.m.: PA Abby finishes her third and final page! Gold stars for being a trooper and laying out three pages. Double gold stars for using the word “kerfuffle” in describing her struggles.
12:07 a.m.: PDF, PDF, PDF.
12:19 a.m.: Jumps give us problems…and headaches…
12:20 a.m.: “Another disaster averted.” Thanks Sean.
12:27 a.m.: Almost there. Calling it a night.
