Production Night Live Blog for Feb. 26

What follows is a faithful account of the production of Issue 5 (taking place the evening of Feb. 26/early morning of Feb. 27) as witnessed by me, The Pioneer’s Editor-in-Chief.

4:10 p.m.: I’m in! Production Manager Sean McNulty announces to the production staff that Circuit 10 layout begins this weekend.

4:24 p.m.: Sean is the first person in the newsroom to read President Bridges’ email announcing his retirement. The newsroom goes into a frenzy… this is breaking news guys.

4:53 p.m.: A hectic start to Production Night, with one late-coming article (security update) and one late-breaking piece (resignation of President George Bridges). On the plus side, we have snacks! No hangry Jess tonight.

4:54 p.m.: Opinion Editor Kyle attempts to high-jack the Live Blog. Not happening bro.

4:58 p.m.: Shelly tells me (Pam) we both started Live Blogs…I am taking over for the near future.

5:34 p.m.: Editors fillin’ out time sheets, people gettin’ paid.

6:18 p.m.: Jess asks if there have been any updates to the Live Blog. Now there has been!
6:41 p.m.: News co-editor Dylan starts a phone call with “Yo what’s up?”
6:42 p.m.: Jess contemplates alternative modes of travel around campus. Current possibilities include roller skating, skateboarding and roller-cross-country skiing.
6:44 p.m.: Jess, Sarah and Dylan debate the veracity of the Walla Walla Chewbacca contest.
6:51 p.m.: Shelly starts her phone call to Sports Editor Quin with “Yo what’s up” after we tell her to.
6:56 p.m: Unlike Kyle, Jess successfully takes over the live blog.
7:15 p.m.: Sean shares his angst regarding Reid Cafe’s attempt at making gyro saying “this is totally not a gyro. This is like a half-gyro. I’m not feeling it.”
7:24 p.m.: Commence discussion of the grosser side effects of the paleo diet.
7:33 p.m.: BREAKING NEWS, there are no corrections to issue 4. I repeat, there are no corrections to the last issue for the first time this year.
7:58 p.m.: Quin tries to select the Scoreboard on the Sports page and everything goes to hell. Not really, but it’s safe to say that InDesign is not exactly his forté.8:12 p.m.: Shelly reveals she got the super-secret yummy cookie recipe from last year’s EIC. And then she lost it. Tears.8:45 p.m.: I (Pam, I’ve been back for a while) refer to Shelly’s ringtone, which is a duck quacking, as “cute.” She says “It’s not cute, it’s fierce.”9:27 p.m.: We just discovered that there is a countdown to graduation clock on the Whitman website…all the seniors in the room are very sad.9:44 p.m.: PDFing already?!10:14 p.m.: Shelly pulls out all the different papers and Circuits for me to bring to San Diego this weekend. Off to ACP tomorrow afternoon!

10:51 p.m.: WE’RE GOING TO FINSIH BEFORE REID CLOSES.
