What follows is a faithful account of the production of Issue 13 (taking place the evening of Dec. 11/early morning of Dec. 12.) as witnessed by me, The Pioneer’s Editor-in-Chief.
6:53 p.m.: Managing Editor Pam London and I argue about who will start the live blog. I clearly lose. Commence the last live blog of the fall 2013 semester! Hooray!
6:58 p.m.: EIC Shelly Le and I (Pam’s taking over!) argue about whether starting the Live Blog is winning or losing. Apparently it’s losing because Shelly had to get out of her chair and go get her computer to start it.
7:01 p.m.: Sports Editor Quin resigns because Shelly insulted him with a classic your-face retort. He’s kidding.
7:07 p.m.: Shelly and Quin argue about elementary school insults. Chief Copy Editor Matthew notices that Shelly is taking a lot of shots at Quin tonight, who doesn’t appreciate it.
7:10 p.m.: Quin does laps around the newsroom in a spinny chair.
7:26 p.m.: Matthew hates the word “purposeful.”
7:40 p.m.: Copy editor Natalie comes in, sees the wide array of cookies on the table, and immediately expresses fears for her health on this night.
8:00 p.m.: Illustration Editor/Chief Headline Specialist Luke is here!
8:06 p.m.: This just in via Facebook: Pio alum Libby Arnosti is READY for the Live Blog.
8:15 p.m.: News editor Dylan sees the bag of Jalepeno Kettle Chips. “What! Kettle chips!”
8:30 p.m.: Dylan is disappointed by the lack of pizza.
8:31 p.m.: Natalie almost falls out of her chair laughing at an article she is copy editing.
8:40 p.m.: Shelly’s back! Hoorays all around! Dylan gives Pam extensive instructions on how to buy alcohol in Oregon. It may seem that he’s done this before…
8:41 p.m.: Production Manager Sean McNulty is playing “Teardrops on my Guitar” by Taylor Swift. Bringing us back to our high school days….
8:59 p.m.: I mutter that I’m tired, Pam quickly follows up with a, “I’m tired too.” Finals are finally catching up to us.
9:30 p.m.: Pam is back. Shelly compelled me to write something, but I can’t think of anything exciting. This is either due to my current state of tired-ness OR means that I am still partially immersed in my history book about Fidel Castro and the Cuban Revolution…
9:45 p.m.: Shelly’s “your face” joke count is now at 2. The latest target? Matthew.
9:47 p.m.: Shelly is well on her way to converting everybody at production night to Dots. Have an iPhone? You should probably download this game.
10:00 p.m.: Numbers in the News unofficial collecting contest between Sarah and Dylan goes to Dylan, by a score of 7-2.
10:52 p.m.: DYLAN IS THE QUEEN OF THE LIVE BLOG
11:02 p.m.: Shelly once saw a cremation. Maybe another euphemism for libations?
