For the last 115 years, The Pioneer has more or less shut down for the summer, leaving a four month gap in our coverage of Whitman news. In the past this made sense–not much happened, and not many students were around to write or read a weekly newspaper. But with more Whitties spending their summers in Walla Walla and a growing online and social media readership, there’s news to cover and we can reach the Whitman community even when classes are not in session.
This summer, we’ll keep you up to date with what’s happening on the Whitman campus and also have a variety of blogs ranging from sports to life in Walla Walla. We already had coverage of Sunday’s commencement ceremony, and you can look forward to articles about the Class of 2016, students’ summer research projects and the annual Princeton Review rankings. Having a presence over the summer also means that if there is breaking news–good or bad–we’ll be on top of it to keep you informed.
Our summer articles will be web-only, so be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter if you don’t already to find out when there’s news. Thanks for reading!
