Every great movie has to have characters you can love forever. “The Muppets” brings back to the big screen my own favorite characters and proves that some things never need to change. “There is only one Ms. Piggy and she is moi!”
“The Muppets” follows Gary (Jason Segel) and his (maybe Muppet?) brother Walter (a puppet voiced by Peter Linz). When it’s time for Gary to take his girlfriend Mary (Amy Adams) to LA for their 10th anniversary, Walter is invited along to visit his dream world of the Muppet Studios. However, once they arrive in LA, the studio is rundown after years of neglect and millionaire Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) is about to tear everything down in search of oil below.
Just as the Muppets have not been together in real life for years, the fictional group has split apart, and it is up to Walter and Kermit to get the gang back together to put on one last show to raise $10 million to save the studio and the Muppet Theater.
“The Muppets” uses one major tool to its advantage: nostalgia. I personally grew up watching the Muppets and 80s and 90s humor never gets old. As usual, the movie is a musical comedy, blending together oldies like the original Muppets theme song, to an all chicken rendition of Cee Lo Green’s F@#k You,” to the show stopping number, “Am I a Man or a Muppet?” in which both Walter and Gary have to decide, are they men or Muppets?
The Muppets are back where they belong and are here to entertain again. The humor is for all ages, and if you grew up watching “The Muppet Show” or any of the old Muppet movies, you will not be disappointed in the least bit. Several cameos only enhance the movie as actors, comedians and television personalities alike join the cast. It’s time to re-meet the Muppets everyone . . . ma nah ma nah!!!
