Every day, all day, it is impossible to turn on the TV without seeing commercials from IFE, the Federal Electoral Institute, a body charged with monitoring the elections and assuring that all votes are counted. Mexico is certainly not a democratic country; the government violently represses social movements, spreads lies about the Zapatistas, and is unbelievably corrupt. But, they think that saying it enough times makes it true. The IFE commercials talk about transparency, popular participation, and so on. “What makes a country great is the participation of its people.” All the while reinforcing the closed, three-party system which excludes popular participation, sells the country off piece by piece, and is mired in corruption. All the while, executing electoral fraud, like in the 2006 elections.
Nothing but lies, lying liars and fascists posing as three parties with three different ideologies.
