It’s official. We’re in New Orleans in one piece!
Feature writer Serena Runyan, News Editor Sarah Cornett, Opinion writers Andy Monserud and Dani Hupper and I are at the 92nd Annual Associated Collegiate Press (ACP)/CMA National College Media Convention in New Orleans and just finished up our first full day of convention workshops.
We drove out to Seattle last night, Oct. 23 and caught a red-eye to Dallas at around midnight. We arrived in the Big Easy this morning, dragged our luggage to the convention and eventually made our way to our house rental. Needless to say, we’re exhausted, but are happy with the workshops we caught today.
Sarah went to a workshop led by the editors of University of Alabama’s The Crimson White who wrote the recent article on segregation in greek sororities. I somehow missed that program in the brochure, but instead, I was learning how to better integrate “web exclusive content”in our “news organization” (that’s right, I was told to use those terms in the workshop for a more positive outlook about web content). I’m starting with this post.
Serena caught up on how to write about sexual assault on campus, Dani went to a workshop to learn how to report about international news in a local context, and Andy went to a couple of workshops that has inspired him to be more involved with news reporting (though he still wants to write for Opinion this year).
Most of us are working on midterms tonight, so we haven’t had a chance to visit the city but more to come eventually.
