New grievance policy provides students an outlet

According to the Statement of Rights included in the Student Handbook, all students have “the right to redress grievances"—but it wasn’t until this year that they were given an official means to do so. The college has published online this year an interim grievance policy, which gives students, staff and faculty the ability to formally lodge a complaint against another member of the Whitman community.

Earlier this month, hundreds of first-years filed through Reid Campus Center to get their student IDs, record their voices and receive their mailbox assignments. Among the many tables that they passed by was one dedicated to the newly introduced “Campus Safety App” available for free.

Whitman Model UN attends Los Angeles conference

Whitman Model United Nations club will travel to Los Angeles April 19-22 for a crisis focused conference hosted by Model United Nations at the University California, Los Angeles. The conference in Los Angeles comes with a high price tag for the club and ASWC. Attending conferences, the major activity of WhitMUN, requires a large budget. This year, the club’s budget is $5,231 and the club has received $5,734 from the Travel and Student Development Fund (T&SD), receiving a total of $10,940 from ASWC.
