Marcus House and North Hall have been the two buildings subject to the most ridicule on campus for decades, so the loss of both buildings in such a short period of time has dealt a crushing blow to the haters on campus. Luckily, I have compiled a new list of potential scapegoats:
- The new upper-classmen housing: It’s not even built yet, and already everyone hates it. Can you imagine a more pathetic fate?
- The Dance Studio: It sits isolated on the outskirts of campus where it can only watch from a distance as its department is slowly killed. Mocking the Dance Studio feels cruel yet enticingly easy, almost like picking on a child.
- Maxey: From the strangely steep staircases to the classrooms without windows, Maxey feels like a labyrinth’s less cool younger sibling. You can get out, you just have to write a discussion post first.
- Cordiner Hall: Cordiner’s austere appearance and grand stage give the impression that important things must happen inside, but watching the pageantry of commencement with fewer than half the seats filled imparts a sense of situational irony that would make Sophocles green with envy. Also, the stage isn’t even wheelchair accessible.
- Lyman: Home of all the children not mature enough to handle a real roommate.
- Jewett: The smell! The pit! Need I go on?
This list was going to go to 10, but I no longer think that’s necessary. With its proud history and certain future of humbling freshmen, I think it’s safe to say that as long as Jewett Hall stands, there will continue to be mockery on campus.
