The first four weeks of school have seen a record-number of bike thefts on campus, according to Whitman Campus Security.
Security Officers and the Walla Walla Police Department have received reports of bikes being stolen from all over campus, ranging everywhere from North Hall to Anderson Hall, as well as at off-campus houses.
This week, The Pioneer met with three students who completed long-distance bike rides from their hometowns to Whitman at the start of this academic year. We also talked with a few members of the Whitman cycling team about several of their community service projects.
First-year Linnaea Weld and the Industrial Composting Club hope to make composting easier for off-campus students by facilitating a bike pick-up program.
Current sophomores and Bike Share interns Andrew Patel and Sara Kleinkopf hope to make Whitman more accessible and make bicycling more convenient for both on- and off-campus students by completing a bike rental program that was started by the previous Bike Share interns last spring.
