This past weekend the Blues Women’s Tennis team played in the ITA Northwest Regional Championship at the home of the Linfield Wildcats.

Junior, Andrea Gu, fought through a challenging series of doubles and singles matches over this past weekend and will advance into the semifinals in both, which will be continued this Monday, Oct. 1.

Also advancing for singles for the Blues was Anastasiya Redkina who will play against Gu in an all-Whitman semifinal tomorrow morning. The winner of this match will play for the tournament title Monday afternoon.

Gu has had a long yet eventful weekend as she and doubles partner Mary Hill will also continue into Monday afternoon’s doubles semifinal.

Whitman’s Andrea Gu and Anastasiya Redkina fought well in their singles matches but both faced challenges in the round of 32. Gu rallied from a set down only to come back and beat Linfield’s Jesse Vezo, 3-6, 7-6 and 10-7 before back-to-back 6-0, 6-0 wins in the round of 16 and quarterfinals. Redkina was taken to three sets in her second-round match but beat Linfield’s Sarah Sweet 6-3, 2-6 and 10-7.

Andrea Gu and Mary Hill were also challenged through the first three rounds in their doubles matches. Their quarterfinal match was tough but the Blues persisted resulting in an 8-4 win over the Whitworth tandem of Emma Jo Wiley and Erica Lee. Gu and Hill’s semifinal will be against the opposing host team of Linfield’s Maggie Fiocchi and Tessa Kern.
