Earlier this month the women’s golf team made history by earning Whitman’s first win at a major golf tournament. On Saturday, April 23, the women wrote themselves into the history books once again. By finishing second at the Northwest Conference Championship, the team ended its season in second place overall: the best finish for any golf team in Whitman history.
Over the two-day tournament Whitman shot 653, outdone only by George Fox, who won the competition with a combined score of 619. Linfield was in third with 658.
Sophomore Caitlin Holland was very proud of how her team performed over the weekend and the season as a whole.
“It feels really good. We proved ourselves to the rest of the conference,” Holland said. “We have only had a full roster for two years now, so we kind of came out and surprised everybody.”
Holland also looks forward to the future of the golf team because all of the golfers are so young.
“We are only two sophomores and four first-years, so next year we are going to come back and play really well,” Holland said.
