The Whitman baseball team looks to get involved in the sustainability movement by hosting a “Green Game” on Saturday, April 30.
The Green Game will take place during the baseball team’s final weekend of games during a doubleheader against Whitworth.
In order to raise awareness of ongoing sustainability efforts on Whitman campus, and encourage more ideas for further sustainable practices, various environmental groups from campus will be on hand to show what they do to be eco-friendly. There will also be examples of how all of the varsity teams are doing their part to conserve.
Junior Katie Tackman is part of the team putting on the event and sees it as a great way to inform the larger community of what can be done to increase sustainability.
“This game will be a great event for Whitman students involved in sustainable groups around campus to share what they have been doing and not only educate the student population, but also share with alumni and community members,” Tackman said.
Another goal of the initiative is to get support for the baseball team in its final weekend of games. According to Tackman there will be a lot going on for anybody at the game.
“There will be a sustainability fair, a raffle with eco-friendly tote bags and posters highlighting what varsity athletics has been doing,” Tackman said. “There will also be an alumni barbeque and the Walla Walla Sweets are holding a pack the park event.”
The game and event will both start at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 at Borleske Stadium.
