Dear Editor,
For the class of 2011, February 9 marks 100 days until our graduation from Whitman College. Seniors are invited to celebrate this milestone at the Laht Neppur Ale House on the corner of Spokane and Alder on the 9 at 7 p.m. Laht Neppur will be open to Whitman seniors only, pizza will be provided free to the first students that arrive, and drinks and other appetizers will be offered at reduced cost. It will be a fantastic time!
As we celebrate all that Whitman has given us: a wonderful education, good friends, a plethora of extracurricular options: it’s important to remember what it takes for Whitman to be such an incredible place. Tuition covers only 60 percent of a Whitman education, meaning much of what we enjoy comes from alumni, staff, faculty, and parent contributions. Additionally, 76 percent of students rely on financial aid to attend Whitman. As we near graduation, we must think about our role in this equation. Fortunately, seniors can easily give back through the Senior Fund.
The Senior Class Scholarship is a gift from our class to help fellow Whitties receive the finances they need to continue their education. Students can donate at the Senior Class Committee’s table in Reid at lunch during the week of February 7, or online at www.whitman.edu/give. You will be able to honor someone in the Commencement Program if you donate 25 dollars or more. Every penny donated goes towards the Senior Fund. Our goal is for at least 80 percent of the senior class to participate in the Senior Fund, remembering that any amount helps. Given such a worthy cause… why wouldn’t every senior want to?
See you on February 9, seniors!
Thank you,
Senior Class Committee of 2011
