Hot Take: Sauna Locks

The best part of Whitman College has always been that I can sauna whenever I want. Saunas have phenomenal vibes and facilitate very pleasant conversation. On a few occasions, I and people I know have been weirdly accosted by security when trying to bring friends non-male friends to the male locker room sauna (we always check to make sure it’s all good  — who gives a shit its not like we are gonna start bangin or something…) but other than this I have always enjoyed my sauna sessions. They reset my day. Take a sauna at 8 p.m. and you will feel like morning has once sprung once more. So imagine the gut-punch I felt upon entering the locker room recently and seeing that the sauna dial has a lock on it and that in order to sauna I have to go to the frequently un-manned Sherwood desk for a key. I see no good reason for this. Things were better before…
