During freezing temperatures earlier this winter, volunteers and community leaders converted the First Congregational Church into an emergency warming center for the city’s homeless. The center provided warm cots to those homeless who could not or preferred not to sleep in Walla Walla's existing shelters.

Starting this Friday, Feb. 24, Feminists Advocating Change and Empowerment and the Voices of Planned Parenthood will bring V-Day, an event of global activism, to campus. Started in 1988 by Eve Ensler, author of "The Vagina Monologues," V-Day is a campaign and organization that fights for an end to violence against women and girls.
Less than a month ago Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) closed its Women's Center and defunded the IMPACT! Life Transitions Program, designed to assist displaced homemakers and women from low-income backgrounds in developing life skills.
