Whitman’s electricity is experiencing difficulties this morning, May 3.
An automated call went out to campus buildings, staff and students as part of Whitman’s Emergency Management Plan. The call stated:
“Parts of campus are experiencing a power outage. Some areas have power, some don’t. Crews are investigating and working to fix the problem.”
The issue has not yet been defined, but crews from Pacific Power and Light are on campus working to isolate the problem and assess what is causing it. This will require an estimated 20-minute power shut down in the 11 a.m. hour, according to Gayle Worthington, administrative assistant for the Physical Plant.
Everyone on campus is advised to save any open files and shut down electronic equipment as the team works to get the electricity back up. Worthington said that while she didn’t know when the problem would be fixed, she thought that they would be able to get things up and going again quickly.
Information on what do do in the instance of a power failure can be found here.
