Wednesday, December 4 — Reid Campus Center (RCC) is set to be taken completely offline and powered down from 7PM to 8PM due to a mechanical malfunction that may damage equipment on campus.
In a Community email sent at 6:13 p.m., Fouts and the Third Space Center will also be without power due to the repairs. Vice President for Communications, Gina Zandy Ohnstad, cites a voltage issue that could damage Whitman’s mechanical and electrical systems.
A student worker at Reid confirmed that all students will be forced to leave by 7 p.m.
Initial notification of the power outage was sent to the Wire and other students who work in Reid, including KWCW manager Lucky Eden, at 4:20pm via an email from Juli Dunn.
In the email, Dunn explained the cause of the sudden power outage.
“Due to some faulty power pull that is occurring that runs the risk of damaging equipment (think servers, HVAC, alarm systems, patio grid, computers, etc.),” wrote Dunn.
The Wire has been unable to confirm what the precise voltage issue is.
It is unclear whether student workers who were scheduled for shifts in Reid will still be paid.
As of the time of publication, Hopkins has not responded to the Wire’s request for comment.
