We Can No Longer Ignore Geoengineering

Sam Chapman February 28, 2013
As you might suspect, my friends and I talk politics a lot. Because I am a green activist and an Environmental Humanities major, I can’t resist bringing up climate change frequently; because a lot of them are hard science majors, they can’t resist offering technological as opposed to social solutions. I’ve found this divide to be rather sharp. Some people believe that the answer to a warming planet is to put our finest minds on the case and determine a way to prevent dire consequences—this is known as geoengineering. Others are diametrically opposed to this, and in some cases even scared of it.

Drew Raher’ticle

Tristan Gavin February 28, 2013
In a disappointing loss to Whitworth on Saturday, the Whitman men’s basketball team’s season came to an abrupt end. Whitworth has now won the conference tournament seven years in a row. Whitman has shown the ability to beat the Pirates in recent years, but again fell short of a conference title this year. Although all of the seniors will leave voids to be filled, none are larger than the void being left by Drew Raher.

Why Even Go to the Combine?

Dylan Snyder February 27, 2013
This week Lucas Oil Stadium hosts many top members of this year’s incoming NFL draft class for the NFL Combine. For those of you who are unaware, the combine is a series of physical and mental tests for the incoming players ranging from 40 yard dashes to position specific drills to interviews to IQ tests. It takes place over the course of several days every February and gives NFL coaches the chance to examine the new talent.

From Experiencing ACE’s to Acing Tests

Sayda Morales February 27, 2013
It is no wonder that Lincoln Alternative High School’s mascot is the phoenix. At Lincoln, the students and staff prove that from a sad and despairing place, someone stronger and brighter can rise. On Tuesday, Feb. 26 I attended a panel in which Principal Jim Sporleder, faculty, and a student from Lincoln spoke about their experiences.

The sports debate

Tristan Gavin February 27, 2013
I don't think debate is a sport. I think years of swirlies and teasing from jocks would make even the debaters to be hesitant towards such a categorization. Still, debate is a highly competitive and tactical contest that pits individuals against each other and overall a pretty bizarre spectacle. Whitman was filled with debaters this weekend and I wanted to see a match (game? bout? contest?) in person.
