"Boyhood," written and directed by Richard Linklater, chronicles the life of a boy named Mason (Ellar Coltrane) and his family from Mason’s childhood until he enters college. Interestingly, Linklater isn’t shooting a documentary, but rather brings back the same cast year after year for 12 years to chronicle the next segment of his film.

Last week, the Whitman campus was shaken as a New York Times’ article ranked Whitman as the least economically diverse college out of a group of more than 90 schools. Though the ranking has drawn criticism, with some arguing that it isn’t a fair assessment as it fails to incorporate some other factors, the ranking still holds some truth for many students who agree that Whitman is lacking in diversity.

If you have been reading these pages since May 2013, you may recall the last time my name appeared here at the head of a sign-off column in which I questioned the hopes of the environmentalist movement, my own commitment to it and the progress of mankind. I concluded that there is no purpose to the movement as it is, that fossil-fuel masterminds have already doomed us to an unrecognizable future and that the role of an environmentalist in the modern age is to undertake a personal contemplation of their place in that future.
