“There is great expertise among the swim team. A lot of them are really awesome with working with kids and adults. It’s a good teaching-learning experience for the swimmers that are doing the work. The folks that are taking the lessons also seem to be quite happy with the results,” said Blomme.

Mering Makes History with Win at Nationals

Junior Karl Mering started Nationals without his goggles and ended as a national champion. Despite an early mishap, Mering had a very successful stint at D-III Nationals in Indianapolis, highlighted by a victory in the 100-yard butterfly, making him the first national champion swimmer in Whitman.’s history.

For the first eighteen years of his life, wrestler Hudson Taylor didn’t think he knew anybody who was gay. But since graduating from the University of Maryland in 2010, he has spent much of his time standing in front of college athletes around the country discussing the importance of recognizing and supporting their lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender peers.
