An e-mail sent by President George Bridges stating his intent to create guidelines for future convocation speeches as well as his request for suggestions from student religious group Hillel Shalom has led faculty to object to possible infringements on academic freedom.
At each of their three annual meetings, the Board of Trustees makes decisions that direct the future of the college. However, meetings of the Board of Trustees and the governing committees which advise them are closed to the student body, and much of the process that goes into making the college's policies is kept confidential.

There are currently 17 Trustees sitting on the Board, which selects its own members for four-year terms. The Nominating and Governance Committee, headed by Vice Chair Nancy Serrurier, is responsible for finding new candidates for the Board.
