Rimmy Doowa '12 might best be remembered at Whitman as the small girl with the huge voice in Schwa and Whitman band, Dabbles in Bloom. But since she graduated, Doowa's found a lot of success overseas in Thailand. Currently a contestant on Thailand's The Voice, Doowa is making music and living her dream of becoming a professional musician.

“The outcome of the stigmatization process, which the fossil fuel divestment campaign has triggered, poses the most far-reaching threat to fossil fuel companies and the vast energy value chain.” Those are the words of a new report, released on Oct. 8 by Oxford University. The report adds to the growing body of research on the fossil fuel divestment movement, a movement which hit Whitman earlier this year in January.

Those readers I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting in person should know that I proudly represent St. Paul, Minn. To those who don’t care, I hope you’ll forgive me for discussing a topic that’s quite literally close to home for me. A debate in the city council of St. Paul's twin city, Minneapolis, caught my attention this week: three city council members made a proposal to equip police officers with body cameras. The proposed measure is still in its infancy, but it’s not a bad idea. The police force in Minneapolis, of course, is wary of the idea, but it may benefit them more than they let on. Cameras would have a positive influence on police work for the police as well as the people they apprehend.
