Student representatives on governing boards play an important role on campus, providing students’ perspectives and advocating for student values to Board members who make the final decisions about how the college in run. However, without a direct voice when the full board meets to make decisions, student representatives are at times left unsure of when their ideas are having an impact on the trustees.

Even so, their black characters had purpose beyond proving political points about racism. Like Andre, they were complicated, realistic, human characters who had to confront their own prejudices even as they confronted the prejudices aimed at them.

Scientists must recognize intersection of social issues, quantitative study

Scientists must recognize intersection of social issues, quantitative study

Anuradha Lingappa October 9, 2014
Scientists tend to understand things quantitatively. We need numbers and experimentally derived evidence in order to believe something exists. When it comes to racism and sexism, there are numbers and statistics that prove these problems are real. However, if scientists don’t seek out this discussion, they might never have to confront the fact that racism and sexism aren’t over.
Redefining feminism fosters campus conversation about broader inequalities

Redefining feminism fosters campus conversation about broader inequalities

Hillary Smith October 9, 2014
We often consider the concept of feminism too rigidly, with many of us assuming it is only for radical women. In doing so, we fail to recognize the role the individual plays in his/her own definition.
Wesleyan University co-ed fraternities wrong solution to stop sexual assault

Wesleyan University co-ed fraternities wrong solution to stop sexual assault

Zan McPherson October 9, 2014
While Roth and Boger explain that they simply want to be "inclusive," the decision seems to contain a hidden motivation focused on regaining Wesleyan public esteem in relation to sexual violence.
