At 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 17, students, staff, and Walla Walla community members gathered on the steps of Memorial Hall for a candlelight vigil. Over seventy people convened to show support for the Linfield College community following the death of Linfield sophomore Parker Moore. Moore, a resident adviser and varsity football player, passed away the previous weekend. He was known by many students at Whitman.
Senior Tatiana Kaehler, president of the Associated Students of Whitman College, said in an email that the candlelight vigil was an opportunity for members of the Whitman community to extend their support and sympathy for Moore’s friends and family through their loss.
“We believe it’s essential to show solidarity with the members of our peer institutions in the Northwest Conference,” Kaehler said.
Those at the vigil signed cards of solidarity and condolence for Moore’s family and the Linfield community. Adam Kirtley, coordinator of religious and spiritual life, led the group in a moment of silence. Afterward, people who knew Moore spoke about his positive disposition and generous character.
