Student injured in Mill Creek

Sophomore Sawin Crane Lee, 19, was found lying on the overflow embankment of Mill Creek at the intersection of First Avenue and Main Street on Friday, Feb. 13 at approximately 11:35 a.m.

The Union-Bulletin reported on Feb. 15 that the Walla Walla Police believe Lee may have entered the river from as far up as Paulouse Street, where his bike was found.

Shortly after he was found on the embankment, the Walla Walla Fire Department Technical Response Team arrived at the scene to evacuate Lee.   Lee was then transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he underwent surgery on Feb. 15.   Lee is reported to be in satisfactory condition.

According to College President George Bridges, doctors expect Lee to make a full recovery in approximately three months.

Chuck Cleveland, Dean of Students, indicated that Lee is not expected to return to campus until fall 2009.   His family has been reimbursed for this semester’s tuition.

College President George Bridges visited Lee and his family in Seattle last Saturday, Feb. 14.

Cards can be sent to Lee and his family at 6841 17th Ave NE, Seattle WA, 98115.
