Whitman’s All-American Honorable Mention swimmer Claire Collins has every right to brag about her record breaking accolades, but when it comes to her success, Collins offers nothing but modesty. Collins, who took first place in the 200 breaststroke in the NWC Championship last week, is currently waiting to hear if she will have another chance to compete at Nationals for the second year in a row.

Not only did the women’s Tennis team win a Northwest Conference title last spring, but they also went to the NCAA National tournament, proving they were truly a force to be reckoned with. This season, the goal is no different for the team, as they look not just to make Nationals again, but make the Elite Eight portion of the tournament.

In the second Battle of the Whits in men's basketball this season, both teams, Whitman and Whitworth had their fair share of ups and downs through out the 40 minutes of play. However it was the 13th ranked Whitworth who prevailed, coming out on top to the Missionaries 79-76 Tuesday night.

In Conner Merten’s hometown of Kennewick, Washington, it was not uncommon for him to hear his athletic teammates, coaches or fans say things such as “you suck dick” or “fag.” However, following his winter break from Williamette this year, after years of confusion, self-resentment and acting what his community perceived to be as “normal,” Conner publicly announced that he was bisexual and had a boyfriend, becoming the first active football athlete to come out as bisexual at any level.

With a 17-0 record so far in the 2013-2014 season, sitting atop the NWC and ranked #3 nationally, the Whitman women’s basketball team is following up their Elite Eight National Championship run last season with a very promising season so far. This level of dominance is due in large part to Missionaries head coach Michelle Ferenz, who earlier this season became the winningest coach in Whitman women's basketball history.

Despite heading into halftime down three points, the Whitman men’s basketball team cruised to a 76-59 victory over the Lewis & Clark Pioneers Friday night. The win moves the Missionaries to 11-6 overall and 6-2 in the Northwest Conference, putting them in second place at the halfway point of the season.

On the night of Thursday December 6, temperatures in Walla Walla reached 11 degrees Fahrenheit, and with the six mile per hour wind blowing, it felt like one degree.
