KWCW Show of the Week: Smooth Sundays

For Junior Olivia Barry, Sunday means waking up bright and early. She does have some help, though, in the form of gentle songs to wake her up.

Her show “Smooth Sundays” is molded greatly by its 8:00a.m. to 10:00a.m. time slot. Barry plays a relaxing mix of oldies, soul, indie and folk all united by the motto, “smooth tunes to get you up in the morning.”

For Barry, music is a family matter. “My dad is a huge Sinatra fan and a huge record collection and would play me all the classics,” says Barry. In many ways Barry’s show is a continuation of a family tradition. “He would have Sinatra Sundays where he would play his songs all Sunday, so that kind of got me thinking of what I wanted to do for this show and bringing this tradition to Whitman,” said Barry.

Barry’s love of music is clear as she selects myriad songs from all different eras and genres, carefully curated by her. “I just think that this is a really cool way to get back to the music. I think that in our busy weeks and days we don’t take time to appreciate music, so I think it’s great to take some time out of the day to do that,” said Barry.
