Students find financing a Whitman education difficult

The Whitman Financial Aid Office prides itself on striving to provide access to a wide group of students. Unfortunately, a number of students are missing from campus this year due to increasing tuition costs and decreasing financial aid.

Whitman bookstore goes bagless

Senior ASWC Senator Zach Duffy collaborated with Sustainability Coordinators seniors Lauren McCullough and Katie Radosevic to create a plan that would encourage the Whitman bookstore to use fewer plastic bags, while still making the bookstore accommodating to visitors and students who don't have any other means of carrying their purchases.

Memorial seismic upgrade, more construction predicted

Though the last major earthquake to hit Walla Walla was in 1936 and seismic activity in the region remains fairly low, Whitman construction managers aren't taking any chances. This summer, Whitman seismically upgraded Memorial, making the building more structurally sound in the event of an earthquake.

Community to commemorate 9/11

The Office of Religious and Spiritual Life will hold a two-part event to commemorate the ten-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks this Sunday. The events will strive for religious understanding and reflection on 9/11 through an interfaith worship service and later a public forum.

Many departments lack open courses for incoming fall students

Upperclassmen have completed preregistration for Fall 2011 semester, leaving many introductory-level courses completely filled with no space for first-year students. Departments including politics, philosophy, sociology, and psychology are struggling to find space for incoming first-years. Meanwhile, the administration plans to solve the problem by increasing class sizes or creating more classes, which will most likely be taught by visiting professors.

Theta raises funds for Pioneer Park’s Bird Aviary

On Saturday, April 30, Hunter Conservatory and Whitman's Baseball field will be centers of hustle and bustle, as Whitman's Kappa Alpha Theta chapter fundraises to keep Pioneer Park's Bird Aviary open for another year.

Daily Market Co-op to move downtown, expand

Graduating seniors required to pay for caps and gowns

For the first time, Whitman is requiring senior to purchase their own cap and gown in order to graduate.
