President Bridges denies Galindo’s appeal for tenure

President George Bridges has upheld a decision by Whitman's personnel committee denying tenure to Alberto Galindo, assistant professor of foreign languages and literatures for Spanish. Galindo was informed of the decision on Friday, June 15. The appeal directly to Bridges took place after the personnel committee denied Galindo tenure in December and denied his appeal in May.

A Whitman student was hit by a sport utility vehicle while using the pedestrian crosswalk on Isaacs Ave. shortly before 11 a.m. on Monday, April 16. The student, senior Stephen Stradley, was taken to Providence St. Mary Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries following the incident. Dean of Students Chuck Cleveland said that a full recovery was expected.

About 205 admitted students, along with 200 of their parents, got a taste of life at Whitman during Admitted Students� Day on Saturday, April 14. The day included such activities as sample classes, a mock Humans vs. Zombies mission, a tour of residence halls and an opportunity to learn about programs such as community service and off-campus studies.

Whitman will notify all applicants for the Class of 2016 as to whether they will be admitted by April 1. The Pio raided the Office of Admissions and found some of the rejection letters they were sending out.
