Prior to my freshman year at Whitman, I had never done any running. Even three-mile runs seemed like an unfeasible distance. The idea of running a marathon was simply crazy. But last month I ran the full, 26.2-mile Portland Marathon.

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, “An internship is a legitimate learning experience benefiting the student and not simply an operational work experience that just happens to be conducted by a student." This is the standard to which Whitman adheres to when supporting student internships and considering which ones to fund through the Whitman Internship Grant.

Varsity athletes take on the off-season

While varsity athletes' fall season has come to a close, they are still working hard in off-season to stay fit and prepare for the next season. Most varsity sports with fall seasons, including cross-country, tennis, and volleyball, continue to train. While NCAA regulations prohibit coaches from being present at out of season workouts, athletes take initiative and responsibility to keep themselves in shape.

On Friday, Nov. 18, Whitman students were greeted with a blank index card in their mailboxes along with a note urging them to write down a secret and submit it to WEB's annual PostSecret Gallery Show. This year the show coincided with a lecture on Wednesday, Nov. 30 by Frank Warren, creator of the original PostSecret website.
