Language, tradition, rhythm and Walla Walla all meet in the Southern African dance of Gumboot. Led by senior International student from Southern Africa Thabo Liphoto, approximately ten Whitman students have gathered to perform this unique dance at events on and off campus.

Pick-Up Sports Attract Range of Skills, Passions

Whitman College prides itself on an extremely active student body, and understandably so. With 30% of the student body involved in varsity athletics, and a large majority of the remaining population involved in everything from popular intermural sports to kayaking in the Harvey Pool, the Whitman campus is quite active. One resource that active students often get involved in is the pick-up sports community on campus. Though pick-up is not a formally organized outlet on campus, various pick-up groups regularly schedule games that anyone interested is welcome to join.

New Diversity Discussion Hopes to Start Conversation

A small group has created free-form biweekly discussions held in the Multi-Ethnic Center for Cultural Awareness interest house to help work towards changing the campus stereotype of talking about diversity only to say that we don’t have it.
