In Friday night’s game against the Pacific University Boxers, the Whitman women’s basketball team did what they’ve been doing all season long; shot consistently, defended aggressively, rebounded well, and won. With their 65-55 victory over the Boxers, the Missionaries move to 18-0 on the season and 9-0 in Northwest Conference play.
This year, the Missionaries look like a completely different team. They are off to their best start in over a decade, so far undefeated and having already amassed 14 goals for and only one against. In its first five games, the team has already matched its win total from last season.
This past Saturday, men's soccer head coach Mike Washington earned his 100th career win when Whitman defeated the University of Puget Sound 2-1 in overtime.
A weekend of electric crowds, furious rallies and stifling defense, the Whitman men's and women's basketball teams find themselves in a position where everyone wants to be: in line for a spot in the four-team Northwest Conference tournament.
Already with a significant roster size advantage, both Whitman swim teams blew Pacific University out of the water. The men won 155-20, while the women won 135-59.
