Whitman’s February Food Drive helps combat hunger in Walla Walla

Walla Walla food banks have seen demand for services increase dramatically in recent years. The February Food Drive, sponsored by Phi Delta Theta and the Student Engagement Center, hopes to help meet some of this demand.

Fewer transfer students admitted for Spring 2011, Jan Start group relatively small

A especially large first-year class for the fall of 2010 meant fewer transfer students were accepted for spring 2011 admission, making the January-Start class especially small.

The Glover Alston Center provides students a home away from home

The Glover Alston Center (GAC) opened at Whitman in January of this year, and has since changed how student clubs across campus meet and interact. Built with over half a dozen meeting rooms and intended as a designated spot for clubs at Whitman to meet, the GAC has transformed into a home away from home for students.

Students return from Semester in the West

The 21 Whitman students in the fifth generation of Semester in the West (SITW) returned to Whitman's Johnston Wilderness Center, located 25 miles southeast of campus, late Friday Nov. 19. The 12,000 mile expedition through ten states in the American West provided a semester full of experiences, ideas and motivations for change.

Whitman bookstore fails to follow textbook disclosure law

A change to the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 requires colleges nationwide to provide the price of textbooks and any other materials required for a class at the time of registration. The act intends to help students manage the rising cost of textbooks by requiring college to disclose the course materials earlier during the registration process. Although the mandate required colleges to adopt the system as of July 1, 2010, Whitman's bookstore has not yet complied with this law.

ASWC allowed to present at trustees meeting

Last week, ASWC-appointed student representatives presented for the first time in front of Whitman's trustees at the fall Board of Trustees meetings, held from Thursday, Nov. 4 to Friday, Nov. 5.
