Ferenz Leads Womens Basketball to Outstanding Start

Ferenz Leads Women’s Basketball to Outstanding Start

Cole Anderson January 30, 2014
With a 17-0 record so far in the 2013-2014 season, sitting atop the NWC and ranked #3 nationally, the Whitman women’s basketball team is following up their Elite Eight National Championship run last season with a very promising season so far. This level of dominance is due in large part to Missionaries head coach Michelle Ferenz, who earlier this season became the winningest coach in Whitman women's basketball history.

Secondhand Grammys

Quin Nelson January 29, 2014
I watched the Grammys on Sunday night. Well, I watched it secondhand. In this, the year 2014, awards shows and most major television events are not entertaining in themselves so much as they are entertaining for the tweets, GIFs, and thinkpieces they spawn on the Internet. Grandiose, antiquated events like the Grammys are splintered and distilled into a select few talking points that are mulled over and recycled until no one can think of any more Macklemore jokes.

Say Hello to the Spring 2014 Pioneer Editorial Board!

Say Hello to the Spring 2014 Pioneer Editorial Board!

Shelly Le January 25, 2014
Another semester gone and another looms ahead. I am halfway through my tenure as editor-in-chief and I'm feeling a mixture of excitement and nervousness. This is our chance to reflect on the mistakes that we made last semester and improve on our decisions this semester. I hope to let a few things go that aren't as important to the needs of our staff, but I'm also hoping to push us in ways that may make us uncomfortable at times. We work hard, we play hard, and I can't wait to see what the next thirteen issues have in store for us. Here's to another great semester.

Men’s Basketball Falls to Whitworth

Cole Anderson January 24, 2014
In the first meeting for the Whitman men’s basketball team with that school up north, Whitworth, the rivalry upheld its growing reputation as one of the most exciting in Division-III sports. In what seems to be a trend between these two teams, the last few plays of the game Tuesday night were the deciding factor in the result, ending in an 84-80 loss for the Missionaries. With the loss Whitman drops to 5-2 and third in the Northwest Conference.
